In 2022, analysis of Defra’s data on waste collection by local authorities ranked Buckinghamshire Council 80 out of 333 authorities (collection, unitary, and disposal), and 19 out of 94 unitary authorities. In 2021/22 the data shows that 49.2% of household waste was sent for reuse, recycling or composting in Buckinghamshire.
The local authority with the best record for recycling was Three Rivers District Council (collection) where 63.5% of waste was recycled. The unitary authority with the best record for recycling was East Riding and Yorkshire where 60.1% was recycled. The Council with the lowest recycling rate was Barrow-in-Furness Borough Council (collection) where 17.7% of household waste was recycled. The Unitary Authority with the lowest recycling rate was Towner Hamlets LB where 19.7% household waste was recycled.
