Doorstep Crime

This chart shows the number of Trading Standards interventions involving doorstep crime, typically cold callers to victims’ front doors.

Doorstep crime relates to rogue traders, bogus callers and distraction burglars who commit crime against people in their homes. This chart includes the number of Trading Standards’ interventions involving doorstep crime that took place in Buckinghamshire in 2019 – 2023, and shows that the number of doorstep crimes fell significantly during the Covid pandemic.

It is believed that this reflects increased resident confidence to challenge people knocking on their doors when lockdown restrictions were in place and so far there appears to be a longer term change of behaviour in doorstep criminals, as numbers have remained low.
