Healthy eating

This data shows the percentage of respondents aged 16 and over who reported they had eaten 5 or more portions of fruit and vegetables on the previous day.

In England, two thirds of adults are overweight or obese. Poor diet and obesity are leading causes of premature death and mortality and are associated with a wide range of diseases including cardiovascular disease and some cancers, which can have a significant impact on an individual’s physical and mental health and wellbeing.

This is a new indicator for healthy eating and is the proportion of adults who reported that they ate 5 or more portions of fruit and vegetables on the previous day.

The latest data, from 2021/22, suggests that 31.8% of adults in Buckinghamshire eat the recommended ‘5 a day’. Comparative data in the same timeframe suggests that the proportion of adults eating 5 a day in the South East is slightly higher to the rates in Buckinghamshire, at 35.2%.  A similar proportion of adults in England eat enough fruit and vegetables, at 32.5% in 2021/22.
