Energy efficiency of domestic buildings

Energy efficiency is a key contributing factor of fuel poverty because properties with poor energy efficiency are likely to have costly fuel bills. The data is derived from postcode level Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) for domestic buildings. Data has been calculated by averaging (mean) the median energy efficiencies of local areas and the source of the data is the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Only homes that have been built, bought, sold, rented or retrofitted since 2008 have an EPC, which represents about 50 to 60 percent of homes within the local authority area.

Buildings in Aylesbury have excellent energy efficiency due to the modern and built-up nature of the area. Affluent areas such as Beasconsfield and Gerrards
Cross also have good efficiency. Rural areas such as Grendon Underwood, Chiltern Villages and other areas such as Booker, Cressex and Castlefield tend to have lower ratings due to older housing, and where home owners may be investing less in energy efficiency.
