Free School Meals

Percentage of pupils eligible for Free School Meals as reported by schools in the School Census.

Families eligible for certain benefits are able to apply for Free School Meals for their children. These numbers reflect those children whose parents have chosen to apply and have found to be eligible. Children at independent schools are not included. Free School Meal Eligibility numbers in Buckinghamshire as a whole are lower than both South East and National levels, but there are some urban areas where rates are high.

Since 2018 the number of eligible children has risen across the country due to the protection of Free School Meal Eligibility status during the roll out of Universal Credit, and this makes the impact of Covid and recent economic changes hard to judge.
